The University of Cologne devotes its attention to research and development. Its international standing is being constantly supported by the many projects it carries out via the German Research Foundation and the European Union.

Over 250 institutions the University of Cologne has established active cooperation with ensure the support of teaching and research. The research strategy that the university adopts concentrates on developing interdisciplinary research centers and offering support in terms of collaborating with international academic and industrial partners.
The University of Cologne has the following faculties: Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Faculty of Human Sciences.

The International Office at the University of Cologne is responsible for matters relating to foreign students wishing to study at the University of Cologne. Foreign students interested in studying at the University of Cologne should first contact the International Office.

There are many different establishments and organisations to which you can apply as a foreign or graduate student for individual grants or scholarships. Foreign students can receive BAföG (monthly allowance paid by the state) only under very strict circumstances. Another possibility is obtaining a DAAD scholarship or grant.

The University of Cologne has sixteen official partnerships with universities in ten different countries. In addition to the official university partnerships, the faculties of the University of Cologne network with universities in over 50 countries. The Centres for International Relations of the individual faculties as well as the International Office are responsible for offering information pertaining to these cooperation.
