The University of Vilnius, largest Lithuanian higher education institution, is established in the 16th century. Today it has 12 faculties, 8 institutes, 10 study and research centers, the oldest Library in Lithuania, 3 university hospitals, an Astronomical Observatory, a Botanical Garden, a Centre of Information Technology Development,¬ and St. John’s Church.
Vilnius University with the big support of social partners, educates globally–minded specialists who successfully integrate in the modern European community.It is an active participant in international scientific and academic activities and boasts many prominent scientists, professors and graduates.
How to apply
An international applicant, a person having permanent residency permit in Lithuania, as well as citizens of European Union and European Economic Area countries apply under the same conditions as Lithuanian applicants. All of them are admitted through joint admission: all university type higher education institutions have joined to the Lithuanian Higher Institutions Association for Organizing Joint Admission (Lithuanian Acronym –LAMA BPO). An international applicant from any other country who does not fall into any of the categories mentioned above are accepted under some rules.

Student Scholarships and Exchanges
Nominations according to the conditions stipulated in the agreements or concrete calls for nominations have to be made by the sending country’s authorities; nevertheless, evidence of acceptance of the candidate to the host institution in Lithuania is one of the prerequisites for being awarded a state scholarship. For more information concerning conditions and procedures of application, students are encouraged to contact respective authorities in their home countries.
Lithuanian state scholarship for the Lithuanian (Baltic) studies
Students from any other country wishing to pursue studies in the Department of Lithuanian Studies at Vilnius University may apply for the Lithuanian state scholarship designed exclusively for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies. Applications can be submitted directly to the Department of Higher Education and Science. Such scholarships cover only a monthly allowance; tuition fees, accommodation and other expenses have to be secured from other resources.

State Scholarships
The exchange students under the exchange programme or bilateral agreement are treated according to the programme or agreement conditions and, as a rule, are exempt from the tuition fees at Vilnius University.
