University of Akureyri
The University of Akureyri is located in the capital of north Iceland and has served Akureyri and its rural surrounding since 1987. The university has built a reputation for academic excellence and good industrial relations. The university was founded in September 1987 with the establishment of faculties in health sciences and industrial management and today is divided into three faculties; Faculty of Business and Science, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Faculty of Health Sciences. The number of students is around 1450 and members of staff are around 180.
The University of Akureyri has five research institutes. Research is one of the fundamental aspects of the University of Akureyri. Most of the research work is done by the academic members of the staff and research administration is in the hand of RHA – UNAK’s Research and Development Center.
How to apply
At the University of Akureyri the principal language of instruction is Icelandic. Textbooks are mainly in English and Icelandic. Most faculties offer some courses in English and some departments allow international students to take their examinations in English during the first semester of study. This is, however, always subject to the approval of each faculty and individual instructors.

Degree seeking students (Polar Law): 15th of April (NON-EU/EEA RESIDENTS) and 5th June (EU/EEA RESIDENTS) for the following academic year.
Student Scholarships and Exchanges
University does not provide any scholarships, but you can probably receive a grant from Erasmus/Nordplus Exchange Programme, when your application is approved. This mobility grant is not meant to cover all living costs, only the differences in costs of living abroad.
