The World Bank and its partners, invite young people to participate in an International Essay Competition: “Youth Unemployment”

Deadline: 16/03/2010
Open to: young people in the ages 18 – 25

The World Bank is offering an international essay and video competition for youth to share experience and ideas on these questions:
1. How does youth unemployment affect you, your country, town or local community?
2. What can you do, working together with your peers, to find a sustainable solution for job seekers through youth entrepreneurship? Think specifically about the barriers youths face in the labor market and how to tackle difficulties in accessing capital for business startups.

Criteria:
- the competition is open for nationals of ALL countries of the world, students and non-students alike, aged 18-25. Students enrolled in Ph.D. courses are, however, not eligible to participate.
- essays and videos ( in English, French, or Spanish) should be submitted by individuals
- one participant may only submit one work per category

Awards include:
1. Essay
- authors of the best essays (finalists) will participate in the Final Jury in Stockholm, Sweden, in May 2010, and attend the Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE). The World Bank will cover the cost of travel and accommodation for the finalists.
- money awards: 1st prize: 3,000 USD; 2nd prize: 2,000 USD; 3rd prize: 1,000 USD

2. Video
- author of the winning video will also be invited for a screening ABCDE in Stockholm, Sweden.
- money awards: 1st prize: 2,000 USD; 2nd prize: 1,000 USD; 3rd prize: 500 USD

Submission process:
The submission process for the Essay Competition is entirely Internet-based. To submit a video, you must first create a YouTube account and upload your work on the YouTube website. Additionally, you are required to submit a form via the Essay Competition website by 16 March 2010.
