Media Development – Summer university

Central European University organises CEU Summer University (SUN) and invites students and young scholars to join the course ‘Media Development and Democratization: Understanding and Implementing Monitoring and Evaluation Programs’.

This intensive summer course on media development and democratization is designed to help researchers from academia and civil society gain a better understanding of the history, theory, practice, current trends, and differing methodologies involved with the monitoring and evaluation of international aid programs and their impact. The course will be run as a “master class” on the topic of monitoring and evaluation in media development and will feature a range of lectures, group discussions, as well as field trips within Budapest and Hungary to meet with individuals engaged with work in this field either as researchers, donors or recipients, including a number of minority and community radio projects.

Eligibility
The course is intended for advanced MA students, PhD students, media development professionals, journalists or other media practitioners with a demonstrated interest in media development, as well as professionals from organizations that undertake program monitoring and evaluation.

Language requirement
The language of instruction is English; thus all applicants have to demonstrate a strong command of spoken and written English to be able to participate actively in discussions at seminars and workshops. (In some instances shortlisted applicants may be contacted for a telephone interview.)

Application process
The applicant need to apply through the online SUN Application Form by submitting  following documents until 15 February, 2010:
1. Completed online SUN Application Form
2. Letter of recommendation
3. A full curriculum vitae or resume, including a list of publications, if any
4. Statement of Purpose
5.  Writing sample in English (max. 10 pages) related to the course theme
6. Research Proposal

Optional attachments:
* A copy of an article in English published recently (if available)
* A copy of an English language certificate (if available)

Financial matters
Tuition fees: 550 eur

Financial aid is available in the following categories:
- tuition waiver
- accommodation grant
- travel grant (full or partial)

Participants from Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and Mongolia, as well as those coming from emerging countries worldwide can apply for financial aid in all categories listed above. For more detailed information about scholarships and financial aid click here.
