Scholarship: £17,030 per annual will be provided, inclusive of university fees (£3440 pa)

One 3-year doctoral studentship in the area of addictive behavior is available from September 2010 in the Department of Psychology, Goldsmiths, University of London.Recreational substance use by young people in the UK is prevalent and often associated with a raft of health and social problems, which frequently persist across the individual’s lifetime. Broadly, this studentship will focus on pathways to problematic substance use by examining the risk and resilience factors associated with the onset and development of substance use across adolescence.

Qualification and skills:

* Applicants for this studentship will have completed a Masters degree in Psychology or a highly related area.
* The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong aptitude and motivation to work in a research team undertaking both collaborative and individual research projects in a scientifically rigorous way.
* We are also looking for a candidate who will be able to: work with adolescents, parents and schools in South East London; present research at national and international scientific meetings; and submit research manuscripts for publication.
* Some teaching will be required to be undertaken as part of this studentship.
