The education and public outreach department at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) seeks interns year round for its headquarters in Garching near Munich, Germany.

About/Eligibility

The internship is aimed at those who want to gain experience in science communication of front line astronomy projects. Candidates should have some previous experience in written science communication in English and have a basic knowledge of astronomy. Fluent in English (written and oral) is required as well as strong MS Office applications skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Candidates currently studying or having recently completed a University degree in science communication or science journalism, are preferred.

Although preference is given to nationals of ESO Member States (Austria, Belgium, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom) no nationality is in principle excluded.

Duration/Costs

The duration of the internship is initially for three months up to a maximum of six months. The ESO offers a monthly allowance to cover living expenses and provides accommodation as well as travel costs to and from ESO headquarters.
