Deadline: 20 February 2012
Open to: Amateur and student filmmakers
Prizes: 500 euros

Description

The Review of Amateur Film – RAF is a film festival happening at the end of March in Zagreb and it has been imagined as a program that includes the presentation of amateur, student and non-professional films from around the world without any kind of selection. Also, it is the meeting place where authors can meet each other, mingle, promote themselves and their movies and have a lot of fun. The first RAF was held in 2002. There is only one simple reason why it was decided not to have a selection: everyone who invested their energy and created something must have the chance to present their work and energy in public. The audience is the one and only jury. With a spontaneous contact, ideas are being exchanged, films are being commented on, and you also get some feedback and arrange new projects. Immediacy, erasure of the artificially created threshold between professionals and amateurs, organization and audience, is very important.

After celebrating the 10th anniversary they decided to shake things up and introduce an official student competition. For the student competition the rules are changing a little bit. There will be a preselection of the films applied, but also there will be a award of 500 euros for the best film in the student competition.

This is the eleventh review and it will be held from March the 19h till March the 25th in &TD theatre, Zagreb, Croatia.

They decided to make this move because they see a need for student films to be presented in Croatia where in an abundece of festival there is none that focus solely on student films. Even with this new goal, their previous ones have not changed – they still want to show as many films as they can and have a lot of fun while doing so.

Long story short: besides the standard categories of amateur films that enter the competition without selection, this year there is also a category (introduced on last years’ RAF) which includes films that are made by students of drama/film/fine arts academies.

Amateur and low budget-films:

Short films: films up to 20 minutes duration

Kids & Teens: movies author (s) and up to 14 or 17 years of age

Middle meter: films up to 60 minutes duration

Feature film

Student competiton:

Films up to 30 minutes duration are accepted

Festival entries are open to all students in film schools, academies or universities. No high school entries.

All films/videos submitted must subtitled in English (if not spoken in English)

Films must have been made as a student work while filmmaker was a student at a recognized educational/film institute

Prizes

The best film in the student competition will be awarded with 500 euros.

Eligibility

The call is open to all amateur filmmakers, as well as all students in film schools, academies or universities. No high school entries.

All sorts of genres are accepted (see application form) and as long as you follow all the rules, it’ll work just fine. Films must be made in 2011. or 2012., only one film per author is accepted, so if you’ve been productive lately, you’ll have to choose the best one.

Application

The winner of this online showdown (blogdown) will be determined by an online community via the World Environment Day website. Readers will ‘like’ any of the posts in order to win an extra vote for their favourite blogger.

Submission Guidelines

Your post should be engaging, interesting, and passionate. Blogging is more personal than journalistic or academic writing. We are looking for individual perspectives and stories highlighting the competition theme, which is ‘Green Economy: Does it include you?’

Clarity is essential. Make it short, snappy and concise. The post must be a minimum of 400 words and a maximum of 600 words.

Be original! This should help your post stand out from the crowd, and should increase your chances of winning.

Read the World Environment Day website! This will give you detailed information on this year’s theme and events and activities taking place. You will also find links to other resources.

Support your post with links to other web pages that are contextual to your post, including a link to the World Environment Day website. Check other environmental blogs to see how they do it.

Ask your friends to comment on your post. We are looking to spread the word on World Environment Day. We will take this into account when judging, so the more comments, likes, and re-tweets your post has, the greater your chances of winning.
