With its 120 year tradition Sofia University St.Kliment Ohridski is the oldest higher education institution in Bulgaria. Sofia University has maintained its position as Bulgaria’s leading university education and research centre for more than a century. Today it is the largest university in the country with 88 degree programs made available by 16 faculties.

New Bulgarian University was founded on 18 September 1991 as a private institution of higher education based in Sofia, Bulgaria. The idea for creating the New Bulgarian University was initiated by several Bulgarian intellectuals who were attempting to modernize Bulgarian higher education, but at the same time preserve its traditions.

Located in the second largest city in Bulgaria, Plovdiv University is also the second largest Bulgarian university, after Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. Plovdiv University was named in honor of the Bulgarian historian Paisiy Hilendarski.
Plovdiv University is structurally divided into the following faculties: Biology, Economics and Social Science, Mathematics and Informatics, Education, Physics, Languages and Literature, Philosophy and History, Chemistry and Law.
