Sofia University has maintained its position as Bulgaria’s leading university education and research centre for more than a century. Today it is the largest university in the country with 88 degree programs made available by 16 faculties.<br />
Sofia University is divided into the following faculties: Faculty of Slavic Studies, Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, Faculty of History, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Preschool and Primary School Education, Faculty of Geology and Geography, Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Information and In-service Teacher Training, Department of Language Learning, Department of Sport, Germanikum Institute for German Studies, National Lyceum for Ancient Languages and Cultures St. Constantine-Cyril Philosopher, National Lyceum for Mathematics and Natural Science L. Chakalov.</p></blockquote>
<p>A total of 25368 students have enrolled at Sofia University for the 2006/2007 academic year. 17511 of them enrolled at the Bachelor’s Programmes (16418 Bulgarian and 1093 international students) and 7857 students enrolled at the Master’s Programmes at Sofia University (7638 Bulgarian and 219 international students). There are 969 PhD students of whom 832 Bulgarian and 137 international.</p>
<h3>How to apply</h3>
<p>International students should have a look at the <a target="_blank" href="http://portal.uni-sofia.bg/index.php/eng/admission/international_students/general_rules_for_admission" target="_blank">General Admission Rules</a>. Whether applicants are from EU or non-EU member states they are subject to <a target="_blank" href="http://portal.uni-sofia.bg/index.php/eng/admission/international_students/tuition_fees_in_sofia_university_for_the_academic_2009_2010_year" target="_blank">tuition fees</a>. <h3>Exchange students and Scholarships</h3>
<p>Sofia University has signed a number of university-wide agreements with <a target="_blank" href="http://portal.uni-sofia.bg/index.php/eng/the_university/international_relations/partners/agreements_for_international_cooperation" target="_blank">partner institutions</a>. Additionally, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski has more than 428 Erasmus Bilateral agreements with partner universities in Europe.</p>

As an institution it was founded in 1974. Pleven Medical University consists of 2 faculties and one college: Faculty of Medicine with specialization in Medicine, Faculty of Public Health with specialization in Management of Health Care, Medical Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy, Health Management, Nursing and Midwifery and Medical College – Pleven with specialization possibilities in Medical Laboratory Assistant, Radiology Laboratory Assistant and Social Worker.</p></blockquote>
<p>The University has a vibrant community of international students. It hosts students from Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine, Moldova, Greece, Turkey, Nigeria, Albania, Cyprus, Congo, Syria, Algeria, USA, Japan, Great Britain and France. Up to date, more than 6000 Bulgarian and foreign students from over 30 countries have graduated from the University. The current number of students is 2044. 275 of them are foreign students, including 78 of Indian nationality – the biggest community of foreign students at the university. 835 young doctors from Bulgaria and abroad are taking postgraduate courses at the different specialized clinics of the University Hospital. The current number of PhD students is 53.</p>

<p>Foreign citizens, coming from countries, that are not members of the EU, are only enrolled for training as self-paid students. Admission requirements and application procedures <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mu-pleven.bg/en/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=category&amp;layout=blog&amp;id=56&amp;Itemid=471." target="_blank">can be found here</a><br />
The studies are carried out in two courses according to the language of instruction. Students have the possibility to study either in English or in Bulgarian. The English-language-course students have to attend compulsory classes in Bulgarian language (6 hours a week) for the first three years of training in order to be able to communicate with patients in the University hospital throughout their clinical studies.</p>
