It is also a strongly  research-oriented institution, contributing with 50 percent to the  total research output of the country. The University now consist of 29 faculties,  three art academies and the  Centre for Croatian Studies. There are over 50,000 full-time students.</p></blockquote>
<h3>International Cooperation</h3>
<p>The <a target="_blank" href="http://international.unizg.hr/relations" target="_blank">International Relations Office</a> coordinates and administers international collaboration of the University of Zagreb.</p>
<p>The University of Zagreb has over 100 bilateral agreements signed with its <a target="_blank" href="http://international.unizg.hr/relations/agreements" target="_blank">partner universities</a> from Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia. These bilateral agreements regulate different types of cooperation, such as exchange of scholars and students, joint publications, exchange of information and other activities in order to improve the academic cooperation.</p>
<p>Certain faculties of the University of Zagreb have also a number of bilateral agreements signed with their partner universities abroad. <h3>EXCHANGE STUDENTS</h3>
<p>Exchange students are students participating in a formal exchange programme between their home university and the University of Zagreb. (i.e. <strong>Erasmus, Bilateral agreements, CEEPUS, Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window </strong>etc.).</p>

<h3>DEGREE SEEKING STUDENTS</h3>
<p>Degree seeking studens are students studying for a full Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree at the University of Zagreb.</p>
<p><strong>APPLICATION PROCESS</strong><br />
Admission to all university study programmes is restricted; i. e. the number of places is subject to an annual decision of the University Senate. All students, including foreign citizens that want to study at the University of Zagreb, need to pass the entrance classification exam. The selection of candidates is based on the score achieved in the entrance exam. Foreign citizens are entitled to enrol on the condition that they have achieved the required score and depending on the number of places available for foreign students.</p>
<p>There are two examination periods: the first (July) examination period and second (September) examination period (only if the enrolment quota has not been filled in July).</p>
<p>For a more detailed information on the classification procedure (the subjects at the examination, the literature that should be studied, cost of the examination procedure, exact dates of the exam, etc) prospective applicants are advised to inquire at the faculty/academy of the University of Zagreb they wish to enrol.</p>

University undergraduate programme: completion of a four-year secondary school.<br />
University graduate programme: completion of a university undergraduate programme; students with a higher education vocational degree can be allowed to enrol in university graduate programmes under specially defined requirements<br />
University postgraduate programme: completion of a university graduate programme.</p>
<p>Note: All foreign documents must be translated into Croatian; Copies of the original of the foreign public documents must be certified by a public notary.</p>
<p><strong>TUITION FEES</strong><br />
The tuition fee for a study programme is reached by the Senate of the University of Zagreb and it depends on the type of the programme. Information about tuition for individual programmes can be obtained from the faculty/academy of the University of Zagreb. <h3>GUEST STUDENTS</h3>
<p>Guest students are students studying on an individual basis for a semester or a year at the University of Zagreb as a part of their degree at the home university.</p>

<p>Inter-university and international cooperation is one of the priorities of the University of Zadar. This will be achieved primarily by the implementation of the European system of credit transfer (ECTS) enabling the mobility of the students and the teaching and research staff.</p>

While the University was founded in 1973, the first school of higher education was established in 1627 by the Jesuits and enjoyed equal status with the academies in the largest cities of the Austrian Empire. <h3>International Relations Office</h3>
<p>The International Relations Office co-ordinates activities international academic co-operation activities at the University. It gathers information regarding international grants and scholarships and study programmes to be distributed to both home and foreign students. The University of Rijeka has stipulated agreements (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.uniri.hr/hr/msuradnja/suradnja%20s%20inozemnim%20institucijama.htm" target="_blank">Cooperation Agreements</a>) on bilateral  co-operation with universities worldwide. <h3>Focus on Mediterranean region</h3>
<p>The focus of the research work carried out by the University is on scientific areas with reference to disciplines characterized by natural, cultural, historical, social, economic and other features of the region as a part of the Croatian Adriatic and the Mediterranean region as a whole. This involves the research and protection of art and construction heritage, philology, field crops, oceanography and fishing, Adriatic botany and zoology, island and coastal economy, Adriatic tourism, maritime law, nautical science, naval architecture and a range of other specific disciplines of technical sciences such as chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering.</p>
