Studies in Latvian higher education institutions take place in the Latvian language; individual study programmes and subjects are taught also in English or other foreign languages.</p></blockquote>
<h3>How to apply</h3>
<p>The academical year is divided in two semesters &#8211; in autumn semester (from September till January) and in spring semester (from February till June).</p>
<p>International students for degree studies should submit the following documents to the Student Services/Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia by May 15 (EU citizens by July 15) (unless specified otherwise in the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.lu.lv/eng/istudents/degree/study/" target="_blank">program description</a>).</p>
<p>Application documents without included all required attachments and application fee payment confirmation will be understood as un-valid and will not be forwarded for further processing.</p>
<p>International degree students conclude study agreement with the chosen faculty. The agreement stipulates study programme, type of study, length of study and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.lu.lv/eng/general/contactinformation/account/" target="_blank">study fee.</a></p>
<p>For the international degree students the visa and residence permits arrangement is under the responsibility of the Student Services of University of Latvia.<br />

<h3>Student Scholarships and Exchanges</h3>
<p>Based on bilateral and trilateral intergovernmental and interministerial agreements on co-operation in education and science, the <a target="_blank" href="http://izm.izm.gov.lv/ministry/currently/2407.html" target="_blank">Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia</a>, in the framework of its annual budget, offers scholarships to students and teaching staff of several countries for studies and research work in state higher education institutions, as well as for participation in summer schools.<br />
The eligible countries whose citizens can apply for the Latvian scholarship are the following: Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Greece, Belgian Flanders Community and Belgian French Community, China, Estonia, Israel, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Hungary.<br />
The Ministry of Education and Science does not grant scholarships for part-time or extramural studies.<br />
Scholarships are granted for the time period up to 10 months. In special cases a scholarship may be prolonged for a longer period. The final decision on granting scholarships is made by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia.<br />
The exchange students will receive information on scholarships from their home university’s co-ordinator. The home university or home country pays a scholarship for Erasmus students.</p>
<p>According to some of the bilateral cooperation agreements the University of Latvia is paying a monthly scholarship to the exchange students who are studying within these agreements. If there are any financial benefits coming from the University of Latvia, it is mentioned on the acceptance letter sent to the student by the International Relations Department.</p>

<h3>How to apply</h3>
<p>For your application to be successful, you will need to satisfy RTU general entry requirements.  Pre-condition for being accepted at RTU is the evidence of authenticity for applicant’s previous education documents and their eligibility for <a target="_blank" href="http://www.rtu.lv/content/view/2029/1239/lang,en/" target="_blank">undergraduate</a>, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.rtu.lv/content/view/2030/1240/lang,en/" target="_blank">graduate </a>and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.rtu.lv/content/view/2199/1287/lang,en/" target="_blank">research (PhD) studies</a>.</p>
<p>International students are required to submit the following documents to the RTU Department of Foreign Students  to apply for study programs:<br />
•    A passport copy (the page with the applicant’s photo);<br />
•    One recent passport size photograph;<br />
•    Copies of certificates, transcripts of your qualifications, proving not less than 12 years of school education and satisfying the conditions to be enrolled to a university in your home country;<br />
•    An application form  (in full);<br />
•    An application fee of USD 120 (non-refundable). We do not accept bank drafts (cheques).<br />
Application forms for undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate programmes can be downloaded from the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.rtu.lv/index.php?option=com_docman&amp;task=doc_download&amp;gid=1353&amp;Itemid=1449" target="_blank">application file</a> (application pdf). <h3>Student Scholarships and Exchanges</h3>
<p>A limited number of tuition scholarships providing exemption from tuition fee will be available to international students for some of the Master degree programmes and PhD degree programmes.</p>
<p>The most popular education programme among RTU students is the EU educational programme Erasmus. Students who come to study at RTU in the frames of exchange programmes or bilateral agreements for one semester up to one academic year, do not pay tuition fee. DU offers 56 study programmes that train biologists, programming engineers, physicists, intercultural relations managers, institutional managers, economists, psychologists, artists, linguists, interpreters, career consultants and other specialists. DU has eight research centres, almost all of them have allocated the means of various EU projects and have purchased modern equipment, which allows to conduct high level research in various fields.</p>
<p>DU is located in multicultural environment. Cooperates with various institutions worldwide and recently we became a member of EUA. University participates in international Erasmus programme and has 38 partners in 17 countries.</p></blockquote>
<h3>How to apply</h3>
<p>An academic year is divided into 2 semesters. The Autumn semester starts on September 1 and lasts until January 31. The Spring semester begins on February 1 and lasts until June 30. Winter exam period lasts from January 4 till January 24. Spring exam session lasts from June 1 till June 20. There is Christmas vacation from December 24 till January 4 and Summer vacation that starts on June 21 and lasts until September 1.</p>
<p>The languages of instructions at almost all faculties of RU are Latvian and English.</p>
