Aveiro University (UA), was created in 1973, and is located in the northern central region of Portugal. Since its creation, it has been regarded as one of the most inovatite and dinanic universities in Portugal. Nowadays, it has almost 15.000 students istributed across 58 graduation courses, over 40 MSc courses and 25 PhD programs.

The Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) was created in 1930, as the result of the union of older schools. Nowadays, it comprises seven different faculties and institutes, in many different areas. Around 20,000 undergraduate students and 3500 postgraduate students currently attend the seven Schools of the UTL.

The University of Porto is largest Portuguese university according to the number of students. It has one of the most noted research outputs in Portugal. It is a public university located in Porto and founded in 22 March 1911.Initially, the University was composed by three different faculties: Faculty of Mathematical, Physics, Chemical, Historical and Natural Sciences (including the Engineering School); Faculty of Medicine (including the Pharmaceutical School); Faculty of Trade (never implemented).

It belongs to the group of so called “New Universities” that in the last years significantly changed the landscape of higher education in Portugal. This University is situated in the region of Minho, famous for the outstanding economic activity and by the youth of its population. It could be said that University of Minho has played the role of driving vehicle for the development of the region.

The University of Coimbra (UC) is a public university in Coimbra, the “City of students. UC is one of the oldest universities in the world, the oldest university of Portugal, and one of its largest higher education and research institutions. University of Coimbra was founded a long time ago, in the time of the foundation of the Portuguese nation in the 13th century (1290).It is considered to be the most cosmopolitan university in Portugal, hosting one of the largest international students’ communities in the country.
