University of Ljubljana

The University of Ljubljana is one of the region’s universities with rich tradition. It is considered as large university, having around 63,000 students. More than 4000 professors work at the 22 faculties, 3 arts academies and one university college. UL was established in 1919 as first Slovenian university.

University of Maribor was established in 1975. Around 25,000 students study at Maribor University and it accepts 7,700 beginners per year and 1,800 employees. This university comprises 16 faculties with 198 study programmes, various undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes.

University of Primorska is located in Koper, Izola and Portorož and is named for the Slovenian Littoral region (Slovenian Primorska) where it is located. The University of Primorska was established in 2003. The University comprises five Faculties with about 5,400 students.

The University of Nova Gorica is located in the towns of Nova Gorica, Gorizia (in Italy), and Ajdovscina. The University of Nova Gorica grew out of the School of Environmental Sciences founded in 1995. Today the University has 7 schools and 9 research institutes.
