Teaching has taken place in Cambridge since 1209 and today there are over 17,000 students at the University, including almost 3,000 international students from a wide range of countries.

Cambridge is one of the most selective of all universities. Only about 25 per cent of all applicants are successful, and of these only about 10 per cent are from outside the UK. While academic strength is a pre-requisite, it does not guarantee acceptance; we are looking for well motivated students who Colleges feel are well matched for the courses they have chosen.

How to apply

To apply, similarly as any other UK university, one must apply online through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). Applicants from countries outside the EU must also complete a Cambridge Overseas Application Form (COAF), which can be downloaded above.

In both your UCAS application and your COAF, you should indicate the Cambridge College to which you wish to apply. If you have no preference for a particular College, you can choose to make an ‘open’ application, where your application is allocated by a computer to a College. Please note that affiliated applicants must apply to a College – there is no open application route for affiliated applicants.

The closing date for submitting both your UCAS application and the COAF is 15 October the year before you wish to commence studying at Cambridge.

Cambridge University offers a number of student exchange programmes. The two main ones are the Lifelong Learning Programme Erasmus and the Cambridge-MIT Student Exchange. The Cambridge-MIT Student Exchange offers opportunities for second and third year undergraduates of selected subjects to study for one academic year at MIT. Erasmus promotes mobility between European institutions, for staff as well as students. Opportunities for study in Germany, or for German students to study at Cambridge, exist via the Kurt Hahn Trust. Finally, the International Office also helps administer various scholarship schemes, one of the most popular ones being the Cambridge European Trust Vacation Scholarships, which provide funding for travel within Europe.

Over 20,000 students study at Oxford, including 11,734 undergraduates and 8,101 postgraduates. Oxford has one of the lowest drop-out rates in the UK: figures published in summer 2009 by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) show that only 1.8 per cent of Oxford students dropped out, compared with the national average of 9 per cent.

International students

Oxford’s university community is truly international. Students currently come from 138 countries around the world and study a wide range of subjects. They make up one third of the student body, including 14 % of their full-time undergraduate students and 63 % of their full-time postgraduates.

The Student Information and Advisory Service is responsible for providing advice about issues affecting international students, including immigration questions, and assisting students needing to extend their visas. It coordinates a meet and greet service at Oxford bus station for students arriving at the start of the academic year, runs an annual Orientation Programme for new students.
Visit the homepage for international students

Studies

Oxford offers a distinctive form of undergraduate education, unique in the world to Oxford and Cambridge. It is an exciting place to pursue postgraduate/graduate education. They offer two types of programmes:

• Master’s: these are 1 or 2 year degrees. Many people take these degrees as a professional qualification, and then leave to work. For others, usually in the humanities and social sciences, these are the essential first step on the road to a doctorate and an academic or research-based career.
• Doctorate: their doctorate is known as a D.Phil not Ph.D. It is a research-intensive degree, lasting 3-4 years.

Funding

Oxford offers a variety of funding possibilities for undergraduate and graduate students.
Funding is available for undergraduate and graduate students at Oxford, including government support, the Oxford Opportunity Bursary Scheme, and extra support available from college funds, University hardship funds, funding for student parents and students with disabilities.
That tradition remains alive today.
UCL is a modern institution, one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary universities. 21 Nobel prize winners have come from the UCL University.
Around 34% of UCL students come from outside the UK, attracted from nearly 140 countries around the globe. Their research, also, reaches the farthest spots of the world; from the conservation of antiquities in Iraq to the transformation of engineering research in Kazakhstan.
Student life at the university is challenging. UCL provide the opportunity and leadership in teaching and research, entrepreneurship, volunteering and overseas study.

Applying

Applicants should apply as early as they are able; the number of places on each programme is limited. Overseas applicants should note that if accepted by UCL, entry clearance to the UK can take a considerable amount of time and therefore applications should be made as early as possible. Applicants who need to meet funding deadlines should submit their applications in good time and certainly no later than five weeks before a funding deadline or 1 March, whichever is the earlier.

The list of deadlines for different programs

International students

International students are advised to apply as early as possible – ideally nine to 12 months prior to the start of the degree programme. Early application for admission will help students meet any required deadlines for applying for degree programmes, for UCL accommodation and for any scholarship or funding applications.
The International Office is here to assist with any advice or information you may need about applying to and studying at UCL. Members of UCL staff regularly attend events overseas to provide information and advice about UCL and you can find out if we will be visiting your part of the world at:

Visit International page of UCL

Types of Funding

Funding is open to prospective and current UCL students, but they also provide information about schemes that are available for study at any UK universities.
Funding schemes include scholarships, awards, prizes, medals, bursaries, and loans.
UCL defines scholarships, awards, prizes and medals as schemes which award funding on the basis of applicants’ academic achievements and potential; scholarships will normally be of a higher value than prizes and medals. Prizes and medals are usually awarded to current students only.
Bursaries, grants and loan schemes take account of applicants’ financial circumstances.

Eligibility Criteria
For most funding schemes, only students currently enrolled and/or candidates holding an offer of admission to UCL for the relevant academic year as specified in the scholarship descriptions can be considered for funding.
It is therefore strongly recommended that applications for admission to UCL are submitted as early as possible, and certainly no later than four weeks before a scholarship/funding application deadline to ensure an offer of a place has been made when applying for funding.
Applicants without an offer of admission to UCL when applying for funding may be excluded from the competition.
Several funding schemes are open to students to pay or contribute towards their tuition fees, either at the UK/EU “home” rate or at the overseas rate. Fee status will be assessed on the basis of your application for admission to UCL (see above), and will be shown in your offer of admission. Unless indicated otherwise, funding schemes are open to UK, EU and overseas applicants.

It was the fourth university to be established in Scotland in 1582, making it one of the ancient universities of the United Kingdom. The University of Edinburgh’s Academic structure is based on 3 Colleges containing a total of 22 Schools.

International Student

The University welcomes applications from well qualified European students and has a long tradition of admitting Europeans to a wide range to undergraduate, postgraduate and exchange programmes.

Undergraduate applications

An undergraduate degree is a first degree for those who do not already hold one. To apply for a full-time undergraduate degree programme with us you must apply through UCAS. UCAS is the central organisation that processes applications for undergraduate courses at UK universities. The application process is the same for international, EU and UK applicants. Entry to many areas of the University is very competitive, so high standards of performance are generally required and specific requirements vary from programme to programme. Read more.

Study abroad
Students currently taking an undergraduate degree elsewhere are able to spend a year (or semester) of their studies at the University of Edinburgh on a Study Abroad Programme. Your year or semester in Edinburgh may count towards your final degree at your home university. You can study at Edinburgh for the full academic year or either the autumn (fall) or spring semester.

Erasmus
There are around 350 Erasmus exchange places for students from partner universities across Europe. Before you can apply to Edinburgh as an Erasmus student, you must be nominated by your home university. Please check with your study abroad advisor or Erasmus/International Office at your home university to see if Edinburgh has an agreement in your subject area. Students may study at the University for a semester or a full academic year. The study period will depend on the agreement with your university. The courses you will be considered for will depend on the Erasmus exchange agreement you are admitted under. If you apply as a full-year Erasmus student, we guarantee accommodation.

International exchange (outside Europe)
There is a huge range of courses within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Science and Engineering. Some exchange agreements are subject specific. In this case, you would be expected to take the majority of your courses in this subject area. Check with your study abroad advisor or international officer at your university for advice. Search exchanges
